Word prompt – Pumpkin
Was a little too long for the other entry so it gets its own. XD
Connor was seated at Hank’s kitchen table, head tilted to the left in curiosity as Hank covered the surface in news paper only to then drop a pumpkin in front of the android and then a knife. Connor looked at the two items then at Hank. The police lieutenant sat in the chair opposite the RK800. “I’m sorry, Hank. I don’t understand.”
“It’s simple. You take the knife and cut a hole in the top. Then you’re going to scoop out all the goop and seeds. We’ll get to the rest once you got that done.” Hank explained.
Connor still wasn’t sure why he was supposed to be doing this, but Hank had insisted. So he picked up and knife and did as instructed, surprised by the resistance he found in making the hole atop. Despite the bumps and ridges he managed to get it fairly circular. “What do I use to scoop out the insides?”
Hank laughed, arms crossed over his chest. “Yer hand.”
Connor’s LED spun yellow as he reached inside and grabbed the first fist full of the goopy substance. He understood the newspaper now and set it handful down. He paused as he looked at his hand and raised two fingers to his mouth to analyze the material.
“Whoa hey! Ah Connor…” Hank protested but it was too late to stop him.
The information displayed before Connor’s vision, though aside from the new taste and texture profile it wasn’t information he didn’t already know. He continued until the pumpkin was mostly cleaned out. “I’m afraid I cannot get the remainder with my hand, Lieutenant.”
Hank got up and grabbed a spoon from the drawer, standing beside Connor’s chair and taking over. One the pumpkin was bare he returned to his own seat. “Now you gotta carve a face.”
“A face?” Connor raised a brow.
“Yeah. You know, a Jack-o-lantern face.”
“I do not know,” Connor said matter of factly.
“Ah, geeze…” Hank got up to grab a sheet up paper and a pen. He drew the classic jack-o-lantern face and set it front of Connor.
Connor picked up the knife and proceeded to make the face he’d been shown. When he was finished a small smile came to the corner of his lips. “Done.”
Hank came around to look at it, impressed with how even the triangle eyes had turned out. “Great.” He grabbed the box of tea light candles he’d purchased and placed one inside before lighting it and putting the stump back into the hole. “Congratulations son. Your first carved pumpkin.”
The android looked at the pumpkin before him and smiled hearing the masked pride in Hank’s voice. “Thank you, Hank.”
